i tried everything would it be easier just to do a reset

Hello  9lives

                     To change the WIFI name and password you need to login to the modem interface and please follow the steps mentioned on the below link to configure the WIFI settings and if you perform hard reset on the modem it will go to the default settings and you can connect to the modem WIFI using the default WIFI credentials mentioned on the modem label.

What router name are you wanting to change?

the wifi? 

How it shows up hardwired in windows?

what specifically are you asking as your question was rather vague

Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 1.4gig/240mbps
