Workaround: Accessing the Cable Modem Status PageF.A.Q.

In most cases, the modem’s Status page can be accessed by browsing to the modem’s address 192.168.100.1 from a client connected to the Wi-Fi router or connected to the cable modem. If you’re unable to get to the modem’s login screen, the workaround is to manually assign IP addresses in the device (Wi-Fi router or PC) that is directly connected to the modem. NOTE: The workaround requires knowledge of assigning IP addresses to the PC or Wi-Fi router. Refer to the user manual for instructions. Wi-Fi Client OnlyIf you only have a Wi-Fi client, the only workaround is to change the Wi-Fi router’s WAN IP address. Log in to your Wi-Fi router’s settings page and navigate to the WAN or Internet settings. Set the WAN IP address to Static and enter the following network addresses. IP Address: 192.168.100.200 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway or Router: 192.168.100.1 DNS addresses are not needed to access the modem’s status page Save the WAN settings. Can use router through ethernet cable, but cannot activate for wireless (SB6183)

I am using an SB6183. Xfinity said I could use it, so I bought it to save some money.Xfinity app recognizes that I’m using it, and services are activated. I can get online via the ethernet cable, but cannot connect wirelessly. When I tried to activate the surfboard via the app, it was not listed. Rather, a link to an older app was suggested for me to download. This app is not available on my phone because the app is too outdated.Why can’t I activate it via a website browser? frustrated. Just want to connect my phone and xbox to my home internet.

G36 -blocking scanner

I have just installed a G36 to replace an old Linksys. Everything is working fine except my vuescan scanning software. It cannot find my Canon MB5120. Everything else is the same. I have a Dell G15 computer running Windows 11. Everything up to date. Everything is the same except the router. I have other scanner software that finds the scanner and works fine. The author of the vuescan software says that the router is blocking access for the software but offered no additional help. I have a little knowledge and experience with computers but don’t know how to go about fixing this.

Upstream LED light on the modem is white - SB6190

I have about a 5 year old SB6190. Downstream light is bright blue, but my upstream light is either white or out. I contacted my provider and everything shows fine on their end….download of 500 MBPS and upload of 25 MBPS. Is it possible my upload LED has burnt out. I rebooted it and the green LED is flashing as it powers back up, but the download light goes to Blue and the Upload light appears white when it is back on line. Is my modem going?

G36 Apple Device Workaround

So here’s a bit of weirdness. Just bought a G36 and everything seemed fine. I gave the “Primary Home” 2.4GHz and 5GHz SSID’s the same names and passwords as the old modem, so all my devices should all automatically connect without having to select a new network and enter passwords. Or so I thought. After a few minutes I realized all my PC’s and Ring devices were connected and sending/receiving data, but none of my Apple devices were. They showed as connected to the old (same as new) SSID names, but no data. This was simultaneous with my PC’s and Ring devices sending/receiving data. I tried forgetting the networks and re-entering passwords on the Apple devices, nothing worked. Out of desperation, I tried using the two “Guest” SSID’s and all the Apple devices connected with data. I honestly don’t know or understand why it worked, but it did. Just thought I’d share.

G34 DDNS Dynamic DNS update issue

September 2024 I ended Dynamic DNS service from dyndns (seemingly no longer working) and set up my G34 DDNS settings correctly with https://freedns.afraid.org/ To confirm it was working, I manually set an incorrect address at freedns.Then I disconnected the G34 coax (simulating a network outage) and reconnected. After some time freedns showed the correct address so the DDNS update that ran after the cable network was restored must have worked.But now, November 2024, Comcast has apparently once again renumbered the network. freedns does not have the new address, but retains the address from September. I can reach a host inside the G34 local network (at a remote location) so I have discovered the newly assigned IP address from Comcast. But freedns does not have it, so DDNS updates are not arriving.Is it possible the November 2023 firmware update which broke port forwarding has minimized DDNS updates in some way?Please tell me how often DDNS updates are sent, after power up?

Hello allI installed a G36 a few months ago and when I would use 192.168.0.1 to login into the router I would get a screen saying a secure https connection is being established and I would see https in the URL. Now that screen has disappeared and I cannot manually type in https://192.168.01.I would like to re-enable the https connection. I’m on Xfinity. Any pointers would be appreciated!Thanks

G54 weak WI-Fi range, dropped connections

I’m very disappointed with the performance of my G54 wi-fi signals all around. My house is only 1600 square feet. G54 is centrally located. My devices constantly drop connections while inside the house, my HomePods drop their ability to connect and need to be reset once a week, my video doorbell, which has a hub only 50 feet away from the router with a direct line of site reports a weak signal and eventually disconnects itself within a day of reconnecting. Im about to swear off Arris products for good but hoping that my unit is perhaps defective. Any ideas?

Mid/high Split Modem sb8200

Mediacom is my ISP and they are doing an upgrade to their system that will disable all DOCSIS 3.0 modems. They now only list 2 modems as compatible with their service - Netgear CM2500 and CM3000. They seem to be promoting mid/high split technology. I would like to buy a Surfboard SB8200. My questions are: Will the SB8200 work with Mediacom? Does Arris sell any modems that are mid/high split capable?

I have the G54 wifi/router and recently purchased the 2 pack of the mesh devices W121. Spent hours trying to get the W121 to work without success. Do I need to change a setting in the G54 unit to make this work? App keeps giving error codes which do not appear to provide answers.Please help.

Using G34 modem with WC4T network mesh

I setup a G34 modem then later purchased a WC4T with 2 routers. After multiple cycles through the setup process I have the Modem wired to one of the WC4T with the second WC4T connected with no ethernet cables. All three have Wi-Fi enabled. I wasn’t able to have the Surfboard Central app connected to the WC4T and the G34 Modem at the same time. I don’t know if I would have been able to setup the system without a Computer to configure the G34 Modem and a Mobile device with the Surfboard app to configure the WC4T devices.It was frustrating to have continued failed attempts to setup a WC4T before realizing how to remove the G34 from the Surfboard app to get the WC4T to connect successfully. I then struggled connecting the second WC4T before only getting it to connect correctly without an ethernet cable attached.Pass → G34 wired to WC4T wireless to WC4TFail → G34 wired to both WC4TIt took multiple days of trial and error to get to this setup.Is this the optimal setup? Smart Plug Connection Issues on sbg10

I am having issues connecting smart plugs to my 2.4 connection. I have tried absolutely every trick in the book. The plugs are two foot away from the router as I am trying to pair. There are minimal devices using the 2.4. Is it the router? Do I need a stronger router?!I know it’s not xfinity - when I used their router - the smart plugs connected just fine! I have xodo & geeni smart plugs and neither brands will work with this router! geeni smart plug specs

SBG8300 - Power off when wifi & ethernet being used

This is a new issue within the last few days, and was not an issue a week ago when using the router for the first time.When PC is connected to (and using) ethernet, and either the 2.4g or 5g Wifi channels are active, the modem eventually (within minutes) shuts off completely, forcing me to disconnect power and reconnect to reboot. Arris SB8200V3 will not connect to Optimum ISP

Four plus hours today and two yesterday trying to register my Arris SB8200V3 cable modem with Optimum. Optimum tech says it’s the modem. Arris tech says it’s the ISP. After trying two new Arris modems with Optimum I’ve had enough. Bought a Netgear and will see if that works. Pretty soured with Arris. Maybe something simple but if it doesn’t work is doesn’t work. ☹️

SB8200v3 occasionally crashes - Comcast says that they have no control over firmware

I am aware that there are other firmware related posts but am lost about what to do next.We are Comcast Business internet customers and decided to get our own SB8200v3 modem and WiFi router as the Comcast modem / router combinations didn’t offer the features we needed. The modem however crashes every few weeks, what is a problem when I am not in the office as people struggle to trouble shoot and reboot the modem.I spoke today twice with the Comcast support, both associates claimed that they have no access to my modem, what I however believe is not true.Can somebody direct me to how I can get the firmware checked and updated if possible?I currently have the firmware version ( edited personal information )
