Please help - Comcast says internet speed is fine in their 2 point check, it is something with the devices in the house. Old Model TM402P , how can we get updates or some way to check if the router/modem is faulty?

TM402P is a not supported device. Arris supports only the retail products that are available on surfboard.com but not the ISP lease products.

They’d probably be right. That’s a really old modem. Only docsis 2.0 at that. Released on 2006.
They’ve had docsis 3.0, 3.1, and now 4.0 starting this year.
You do need to upgrade. I’d shoot for docsis 3.1
