Control of my Arris G18 modem/router

1.using the GUI interface, I can access the G18 display on my Windows 11 laptop.  How do I change the G18 password of the logon portion?

2.I have the Surfboard Central app installed on my iphone, which lets me access the G18 display through the GUI interface option in HOME.  When I downloaded the Central app onto my iPad, why does the app go into activation mode, and fails with Wi-Fi Communication Failure - ERROR CODE: 0000-1614, when my iPad already has the wi-fi connection with the 5G SSID?

Before setting up the app,  Have the web-based interface (GUI) set up? If you do, follow the steps for a device that is already set up with the web-based portal on the app.

If you haven't set up the GUI before, we need to verify if the GUI is misconfigured. The Surfboard Central app pairs with the gateway and syncs with the web-based interface (GUI) as well. 

First, connect your phone to the Wi-Fi and check if the internet connection is working. Then, connect a device like a laptop or phone to the network, open a web browser, and type http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar. You should see the ARRIS interface page (GUI). If the page asks you to create a password, the modem is not misconfigured. In this case, restart your mobile phone and start the setup on the app again.

If the GUI page asks for an email address and password for login, it indicates the page is misconfigured. We recommend performing a factory reset. Hold down the reset button for at least 20 seconds and then release it to reset the gateway. Wait for it to boot up.

After confirming everything is working, start the setup process on the app again. For your reference, please find the link below for the steps to set up the app.

First, after calling support, I found issue #1 cannot be done without a factory reset.  So when first installing the modem/router, THINK HARD on a password you want, because the Arris Control app provides quite a few customizations you will lose, unless you record them someplace with the reset.

As to issue #2, I learned an important fact - THE ARRIS CONTROL CENTER APP CAN ONLY BE ACTIVE ON ONE DEVICE AT A TIME - e.g.,  iPHONE,  iPAD, WINDOWS PC.  Otherwise, it appears that configuration confusion occurs, and I was told that the modem interface (the Arris app) stores the settings from the app setup are stored in a cloud, frontending the modem.  An active Arris Control app on the iphone can cause comm errors in initial setup of the app on another device.  Also, each web GUI startup attempt creates its own browser window, possibly causing logon problems for the GUI webpages I experienced.  SO, ALSO BE SURE NO INSTANCES OF THE GUI INTERFACE ARE RUNNING ON YOUR PLATFORM WHEN ATARTING THE GUI WEB INTERFACE OPTION FROM THE APP “HOME” SELECTION LIST.

REMEMBER THE DAYS WHEN YOU COULD JUST SIGN ON TO THE MODEM GUI DIRECTLY WITH JUST THE ADMIN ID AND PASSWORD. AND THEN CHANGE WHAT YOU NEEDED, INCLUDING THE MODEM PASSWORD AND WIFI  NAMES AND PASSWORDS?   simpler days - GONE
