I’ve already factory reset the 🤬 thing twice.

Bought it brand new on Friday. I’ve been trying to set it up and the “Surfboard App” on my phone is ridiculous. I’ve got it somewhat up and running - it’s what I’m using to post this query. But…

The “app” on my Android phone keeps disconnecting from the network. Despite the fact it says it’s connected to the network. Switching between screens on the app takes a literal minute - 60 seconds. The “parental controls” aren’t controlling a thing. Currently this desktop is supposed to be “paused” from accessing the internet.

I did rename the Wi-Fi gateways and the passwords, but everything says its connected to the new networks. Seriously, how is this computer connected? WHY is this computer connected when it’s supposed to be paused? I’m about to return it and look for a different brand, unless someone can help.

Thanks in advance.

Whenever you set up parental controls for a device connected to the network, you must reserve its IP address. This is because, on the G34, the IP address assigned to a device can change frequently by default. Parental control rules are applied to the device’s IP address, so if the IP keeps changing, the rules will not remain effective.

Please refer to the link below for instructions on how to reserve an IP address using the Surfboard Central app.

After reserving the IP address, redo the parental control setup for the devices you want to manage.

Okay - this much I understand. My bigger question is, why is it that in my house, connected on the 5GHz connection it takes literally overwhelmed one minute (I timed it once to 1:33) to go through the parental controls? It just does there with the little spinning circle.

Please note: When connected to the 5 GHz network, ensure you are not too far from the G34. The 5 GHz band provides higher speeds but has limited coverage, whereas the 2.4 GHz band offers wider coverage but lower speeds.

I am, quite literally, standing NEXT to it. If I could embed a video of me standing next to the G34 and how long it takes to get a page to load, I would.

In this case, please restart both your mobile phone and the gateway. This often resolves synchronization issues between the app and the gateway.
