G36 exisits? Upgrade firmware or replace for slow speed

I have a G-36 DOCSIS 3.1 for about 14 months.  It’s been working FAST on Cox.  However, the past few weeks it’s dropped speed from 550MPS to under 30MPS.  COX says it’s an old, outdated modem and want to sell me their own.  WHAT?  I need to be able to customize port forwarding and other features that if I get a COX managed modem I won’t be able to do that.

Is there a firmware updates for this modem?

I have read that the updates are ‘automatic’ and some folks experienced a downgrade in performance.  How can I tell if my G-36 updated the firmware and what revision should it be at?

If NOT, then what’s a good replacement that won’t be obsolete in 15 months?

Doing some more research here after I post, I read that 1) G-36 is on the COX compatibility list, 2) it is up to them to push out the firmware updates.  I have AR01.05.020.13_032624_735.NCS.20 currently installed.  Are there any known issues with speed with this updated version?  Shall I wait for a ‘fix’ to be pushed out.  Can I believe COX when they say the G-36 “too old” and needs to be replace?  Thanks,

I’d be betting on line issues. 

  1. got a screensnip of the cable connections page and event logs? 
  2. test your wired speeds. Not wireless. You don’t state which yours were but wireless might only hit 30mbps over 2.4ghz. It’ll be faster over 5ghz and should hit full speed over wired
  3. also try different test sites and report back

Hard Wired to LAN (not using wi-fi-disabled).  (You lost the bet!)

Using FAST.COM and SpeedTest.net.  With SpeedTest I changed to another server..similar results.

Down 30.  UP 57  (typical).  Only the download speed is affected.

Your Internet speed is 620 Mbps after reboot....then back down to 30Mbps eventually.

Note: a colleague has a similar problem with his Arris...it started slowing down and dropping connections a few weeks.  Makes me wonder if there is a bad update being pushed out.

Got that screensnip of the cable connections page and event logs? That checks the connection back to the ISP. They’re frequently an issue
