I have Spectrum with their modem and separate router. I learned that if their service goes down my LAN does not function. Is that true with the G36? Also one poster said his download speed decreased significantly compared to the Spectrum modem.

In this case since spectrum is your internet service provider so when there service goes signal to the modem will get affected and that will cause the LAN to not function that is no internet connection. if the signal rate to the modem are in accepted level modem will provide you the optimum speed according to the speed plan.
