I am still unable to login to the web based interface, even after Arris customer support guided me through 3 hard resets and 90 min. of wasted time. Could this possibly have anything to do with the fact that I am not using the mobile app because I don’t have a smart phone. I thought I could just use my desktop computer. Can anybody help me; I only have 2 more days to return the thing to the store?

Before attempting to log into the web-based interface (GUI), make sure that your device is connected to the G34 network.
If the page loads and prompts you for a username and password, use 'admin' (all lowercase) for the username. For the password, use your customized one. When you first visit the GUI, it will ask you to create a login password. If you forget the password, perform a factory reset without the coaxial cable plugged in, as you mentioned you had tried resetting the gateway.
