Question

Unable to setup the SBC app and slow speed on G36

I just purchased an setup the ARRIS G36. I done this many times before but this is turning out to be a bit of a nightmare. I tried to use the app to setup the modem/router, but it doesn’t work. It asked me to take a picture of the QR code for easy setup, but the camera appears for moment and then goes away returning a message no valid QR code (although it only gives me 1 sec before doing this.) So then it asks me to log in using the credentials on the bottom of the modem which doesn’t work. Finally I used a browser and the default IP to access the modem and did some web research to figure out the default name and password which isn’t listed anywhere. There was no documentation in the box. So now it is working, but the 2.4 radio only supplies 50-100 mbps speeds compared to 500 using 5ghz. Anyway, I’d like to use the app but absolutely cannot get through the setup stages AT ALL. It asks for names and passwords I don’t have or don’t know how to access and the ones I have established through the web interface don’t work either. This is making me feel slow. Anyone out there have any help?

I would send it back. So many issues with it. So many people have nothing but problems,  including myself.

My understanding is that if you set it up with the browser, the app won’t connect. I could be wrong.

50-100mbps is normal for 2.4ghz. Its a slow band and sensitive to interference. Its the whole reason for the addition of 5/6ghz bands. It tends to be relegated to IoT devices (low bandwidth) anymore. sounds like its speeds are where it should be, just that you can’t get the app to work.

I’ll be honest. I don’t use the app. It has limited capability for managing the device and the GUI has much more info/capabilities. If it was me, I’d stick with the GUI
