I need to configure an Arris G34 in home network as secondary router. I understand I must set the 1st 3 digits of the IP address to match the default gateway with a unique 4th digit. Also I know I must change the default IPv4 default gateway to match the primary router. I’m having trouble finding these items in the configuration screen. Can someone please help me. Thank you.

If you have an Eero system connected to the G34 gateway, you may experience intermittent connectivity issues due to a network conflict. This happens because both the G34 and the Eero router manage DHCP services, which can cause interference.

To resolve this issue, we recommend configuring the G34 in router mode and connecting it directly to the fiber optic line as the primary router. Then, set the Eero system to Access Point mode. This will disable DHCP on the Eero, allowing the G34 to continue managing DHCP. In this setup, the Eero acts as a Wi-Fi extender, simply broadcasting the network signal.

Unfortunately, the G34 does not offer Access Point mode

When you mention configuring the G34 as a secondary router, could you please confirm the model of your primary router as well? This will help us provide you with precise and relevant guidance.

Additionally, kindly share the name of your internet service provider and the speed plan you’ve subscribed to?

Hello SURFboard Community Moderator Team,

Thank you for your reply.

The primary router is Eero 6+, model R010001 (it is a modem/router).

The internet service provider is Surf Internet (northern Indiana). It is a fiber optic service. I believe I subscribed to 300Mbps (up and down) but a Speakeasy speed test over ethernet shows just under 1Gbps (up and down). I’m not sure why that is the case.

Thanks again.

Hello SURFboard Community Moderator Team,

Thank you for the reply. I didn’t know that the G34 doesn’t support Access Point mode. I’m hesitant to replace the Eero primary modem/router because I don’t own the equipment. The internet company owns it, installed it and thus is responsible for it. As much as I wanted to use the very good quality G34 downstream, I’ll continue to use a low budget Ciao WIFI range extender.

Thank you.
