My windows 8 laptop is showing as “limited connection” when trying to connect to our new Arris G34 wi-fi cable modem. My other laptop, desktop and all phones in the house are connected.  Network drivers are up to date on the computer and I had no problems connecting this laptop to our previous modem. Suggestions please?

Please try connecting to both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks broadcasted by the G34 and see if the limited connection issue still appears.

If possible, I would suggest connecting the laptop directly to the gateway using an Ethernet cable to check if the Ethernet connection shows as limited as well.

what wifi card is in this laptop? I’m impressed it even connects to the G34 as some of those old wifi cards (especially the win 8 based) struggle with AX.

did you set you network permissions in win 8

Thanks for the suggestions. I purchased a USB to Ethernet adapter, used my phone as a hotspot to download the driver and am now connected to my network!  After some research, discovered this modem does not support windows 8 nor does windows 8 work with wi-fi 6. Time for a new laptop!

Has nothing to do with the G36 supporting anything. It just sends the signal. If you’re laptop is that old, its not compatible. You might just be able to upgrade the wifi card in the laptop but you’re probably correct in that its time for a new laptop if its that old.
