G36 and Xfinity -- every 2-3 days - Still an issue

I guess my previous question/conversation was closed

so I’ll reopen another one with more input (i am getting DMs from people asking me if this solved, it isn’t). Does any official person from Arris actually follows the messages or is this just the community? 

this was a reply to someone who DM’d me: 

I have NOT found a resolution to this.  I want it to work, especially since I'm past the return date. I have not reset to factory yet, because a simple reset/reboot of the router seems to fix it.  I had one stretch where it went 13 days without needing a reboot, but since that time it's back to reboot every 2-4 days.  

I'm not a network engineer, but I still feel that this is an Arris issue, not Xfinity.  The G36 should be able to autocorrect itself, due to poor line conditions but doesn't.  Obviously I have no proof other than, when my system needs a reboot, I can sometimes get into the GUI and validate that the signal strengths are within limits (according to their documentation which is a recommendation not a guarantee)

Your logs from last time indicated line issues. Its tough to tell with your cable connections page through as you don’t include the errors (correctables/uncorrectables) in the data. those are key as well. 

Problem with the “auto correct itself” as you imply is the the CMTS (basically what the modem connects back to) is what tells the modem the channels to be on. And it changes it dynamically based on its own algorithms for data/load balancing. When you reboot, it can put you on different channels that are fine/clear. But then it dynamically changes it based on the network load and it might then allocate different channels (at that time) that have errors/issues. Which causes you issues. Thats why we ask for both the cable connections page (which tells as power/errors at that exact moment) and the event logs (which are a longer term monitoring)

I did notice the channel changes and assumed that based upon observations, having said that it frequently put it back on the same channels (2 out of 3 times---limited sample of tracking).

Anyways  I thought I provided event logs (and some of the errors seems common for Xfinity and specific to their IPV6 implementation -- based on other searches I found on the errors).  Currently my “CM Error Codewords” has no correctable or uncorrectable counts, however I did post some of them in the previous thread. 

My only reason for pointing my finger at the Arris is that there are other “supported modems” on the Xfinity page and I in my quick search did not find them with this issue, so those manufactures must have found a way to overcome this issue.

More likely its a line issue that hits on specific channels on your cmts.

So per the recommendations I contacted Xfinity yesterday and the person who answered “did some things" then assured me that what she did will fix my problem.  I am skeptical but optimistic….  Tomorrow will be day 3 after a reboot, will update this in a few days. 

Note: she also said she was going to reboot the modem remotely and it never did

Wow ii Fred, came upon this post browsing through the support forums, and I’m having somewhat of a similar issue as you are.

 

Also have an ARRIS G36

Xfinity Service in Florida - Port Saint Lucie

 

Basically every few days 1-2 days, most likely for me is around 1:30am // 4:00AM at time it has happened in the afternoon as well.

 

My download speed TANKS to about 0.03 Megabits when performing speed tests over ETHERNET or WIFI. However my upload remains a nice 40 Megabits.

No matter how long I happen to wait, downloads speed remains right around there 0.03 to sometimes 0.3 Megabits. (This has been going on for months now)

Multiple tech visits checking the line/cable ETC..

 

The ONLY way I can bring it back, much like yourself Power RESET, brings the download speed right back to a nice 925/950Megabits per second…

@Tactical1911  ← if possible i’d delete your post or take out your CM-MAC/MAC address (from the event log).   
For my testing, I would run https://speedtest.xfinity.com (2-3 times a day storing the data in an XLS) and checking signal levels. Sometimes even if the internet was borked/slow, I was still able to get into the GUI and check the signal info, unfortunately there was nothing specific I could do on my end. The option 24/82 errors seems to be an issue with Xfinity’s so I was ignoring it (based upon searches on the error) but nothing we can do and it doesn’t appear to impact the speed. 

@plemans  was right, contact Xfinity.  They did something on the backend

So far I am at: System Uptime:6d 2h 53m 56s.   will update in a week..

On my side I can’t even get to the xfinity page to do a speed test, I’ve run it through google.. which gives me 0.18 Down and 40 Up.

i’m going to close out this thread…   @plemans  was correct, call Xfinity and have them verify signal strength.  

This is what my final levels look like.. You can compare what the “issue” was in the previous thread if you want toi compare.  Below are two sets of numbers ---13 days without incident which is the most days without a reboot.

Silly me… well at least it wasn’t 2 days…  after 17 days I had to reboot the G36
#’s when the system was running slow and after reboot.  Might mean something to someone…

Xfinity tech just left, friendly guy.   He could not get “tone” through a tester and cable line...so we had to place the G36 in another room where the connection was ‘acceptable’ (never did hear the tone tho’) 
All, the SNR is above 35, he said it should be good/solid, even after I showed him the previous data on above 35 and had issues…  Time will tell if this was the fix.

power is within spec but the errors/correctables are key along with the log. that’ll show longer term data. (plus the upload value)

I have the same problem there is no solution Arris should replace that modem, I had to replace the G36 with a SBG7400AC2, I lost some speed and WI-FI range but in my wire PC have a very decent speed.

I recommend, replace your G36 modem this  is a piece of garbage
