I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I get my normal download speeds when the bridge mode is disabled which is around 900, but when I enable the bridge mode option, my download speed is 200 or less. The upload speed seems to be the same. Any thoughts or do I need to return this modem?

Could please help us with the ethernet cable that you are using for direct connection is that cat5E or cat6?
For more than 100Mbps speed you need to use cat5E or cat6. And also try restarting modem after enabling bridge modem to check the speed on direct connecton.

What do you have connected to the modem?
Are you going to a different router? If so, what router is it?
Did you test with a pc/laptop directly connected in bridge mode?
