When installing a new cable modem for the first time, it is required to activate the cable modem with the service provider for Internet access. Here are the following tips to activate your modem.
Make sure the cable modem is compatible with your service provider and the subscribed speed. Modems may be compatible with the service providers but may not be compatible with higher speed tiers.
Remove your old cable modem
The new modem may not activate if your old modem is online.

Major cable internet provider provides a website to activate new modems. Once the cable modem is connected to the service provider’s network, you will be redirected to their activation page to activate your modem.
You may need to call your service provider to activate your modem. Gather the following information from the modem and provide them to the service provider for activation.

- Model Number
- Serial Number
- HFC MAC Address
- EMTA MAC Address (for voice modems)
