I am at the very first step in the mobile app setup. It tells me my mobile device does not have internet connection. However it does have internet. I am at an impasse. Error code is 0002-1002.

Did your service provider activate your modem? Also, could you let us know the model number to help you better?

Everything is working fine now. Turns out, it was a phone issue. Apparently the Surfboard central app does not work well on a Samsung s22 ultra phone. When I switched to my wife's phone, everything went seemless and I was up and running in less than 10 minutes.
I was attempting to set up the W21 mesh system. I also have an Arris SB8200 model which did need to be activated by Mediacom.
