Hello enlarson
In this case we would suggest you follow the below trouble shooting to complete the setup.
» Make sure you are getting internet from the modem where the router is connected
» Uninstall the Surfboard application
» Perform hard reset on the main router for 15-30 secs
» After the router reboots install the application
» Make sure you are connecting router from the modem LAN to Router WAN port
then follow the steps mentioned on the article below
http://arris.force.com/consumers/articles/General_FAQs/mAX-W21-Cable-Modem-Internet-Setup
The advertizing for this set up should be penalized in some way for false advertising...”easy” is absolute BS. There’s no reset button as the troubleshooter tells you to use. Just spinning wheel of death on the app. Arris should be ashamed of themselves.
I am having the same problem as above and am unable to overcome it. I have followed the instructions provided multiple times, on two different phones, and have the same problem. My phone and the app says it is successfully connected to the SurfboardOnboarding network, the router is alternating green and white, and the app just spins until it says there is a wi-fi communication failure error code 0006-1205. Thank you for any help anyone can provide.

I think I figured it out, if you haven’t yet.
The problem might be that your phone keeps connecting to your original network. When it’s available, try switching to the “onboarding” app.
Also, not sure what modem you’re using, but we’re using the Xfinity xFI Gateway (most current model). What the app *doesn’t* tell you is that your modem has to be in BRIDGE MODE!
Setting it up with everything mentioned above worked like a charm, and fairly fast!
HOWEVER… we *did* run into some rather major issues when setting up the satellite router. This took many, many tries. But, eventually, we got it. I called tech support over this, and it took us well over an hour to get it all copacetic. It’s working just fine now, though!
Like I said, I’m sure you figured this out already (or returned the thing). But, maybe this will help someone else out who has the same issue.
I am using a TMobile internet router. I performed a hard reset on it and have done resets on the Mesh router twice. At one point it did an update on the mesh router. The app connects to the Surfboard-Onboarding fine. However, when it tries to get internet I continually get error 0006-1205. This is even after a hard reset on the modem and resets on the mesh router. None of the troubleshooting appears to help.
