Do I have to put my SBG8300 into bridge mode to setup a mAX mesh system with it?

Yes you can. I've used my sbg8300 in modern only mode to connect my w31 to it

Yes you can. I've used my sbg8300 in modern only mode to connect my w31 to it

Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 2.4gig/350mbps
