What did I just buy? This router can’t be configured via LAN? I bought this router to be a dedicated offline local network to use Virtual Desktop with my VR headset. I can not believe that you can even create a device like this and force us into an app this way. It’s absolutely terrible. Why is this app asking for access to ALL MY PHOTOS AND VIDEOS? Why can it not get passed the code verification screen? Why can’t I use a default gateway to access the router? This is an absolute nightmare, and I will NEVER waste my time or money with this company again. I’m about to throw this thing at the wall. This is robbery, you want me to make an account, serve me ads and put me on your email lists, steal all the info from my cell phone, and it is the absolute WORST ethics I have EVER experienced with a networking device. Add Arris to the list of never buy again. Thanks for giving me a garbage product and a lucrative way for me to waste my money.

We apologize for the inconvenience. The mAX router does not have a web interface it is designed to be managed entirely through the app. We're not forcing customers to use the app; it's simply how the router is built. Once the app is set up, the router syncs with the cloud, allowing users to manage settings remotely.

For example, if the router had a web interface, you would need to be physically near the router and connected to its network to make any changes. With the app, you can manage the router from anywhere.

I’ve restarting the modem, I have it connected to my 5g gateway, i’ve reinstalled the app. I’ve done literally everything and the fact I can not just type in the default gateway is the most annoying thing I have ever encountered from a router. You should literally be fined for forcing users into this mode of setting up.

I keep getting error code 0000-1204.

I absolutely can not believe I just wasted the little money I do have on a useless router. Congrats for making the worst router solution of all time, Arris.

Now, I get a “Wi-Fi” error, I have a galaxy s21+ 5g, and I swear to god all of this could be avoided if you just made a local web portal like EVERY OTHER ROUTER.

I give up. There’s no returning this thing for me since it’s opened. This entire experience has made me want to throw up. Thanks a lot, Arris.

I connect to the gateway and just get a Wi-Fi error that needs to restart the router. Beyond pissed at this mesh system. I've never not been able to just type 192.168.0.1 or similar and use admin /password or whatever the default password is to setup a modem. You're forcing people to need a smartphone and cellular service as well as an existing Internet service to use your network devices. It's absolute nonsense that I have wasted this money allocated to try and finally get a dedicated router for virtual desktop. I can't believe how God awful this is and I wish I had trusted reviews instead of thinking it was people not familiar with technology.

Absolute waste of money. There is no Public IP that can be easily accessed, making this router the worst abomination to ever exist. I can’t even ANY program to have a stable connection to this thing. Everything about the app is slow. I slept for 8 hours and tried again and by some miracle the app worked, just to find out it’s impossible for any of my applications on my PC that operate on LAN to actually function properly.

10/10 for worst designed product ever. Feel free to send me the $60 I paid for this useless system, or a 6e router that SIMPLY WORKS. Instead of trying to harvest data and squeeze every bit of financial gain out of your customers. I used surfboards forever, I was under the impression this was a decent budget router. Instead, it’s a clear info stealer disguised as a router.
