With the top end modems and routers you have available for gaming if I buy a new one now will I be able to update them to Docsis 4.0 and Wifi 7? Or will I have to buy a new one again when Docsis 4.0 comes out soon?

If you buy a modem or router now, you will not be able to upgrade them to DOCSIS 4.0 or Wi-Fi 7. You'll have to buy new hardware when those technologies become widely available.
both Docsis 4.0 and wifi 7 are hardware changes. A software/firmware update won’t get them to next generation. Who’s your ISP? The big 3 have been talking about the update for years but its still a slow rollout and won’t really be that beneficial unless you’re talking about getting speeds over 2gig.
