I have my set-up with Arris (my old unit), Netgear WiFi 7 Router and Ooma Phone.  I need to upgrade my Internet Modem to allow for the Ooma Phone, which is hooked up to my Netgear.  Which Arris Modem would work for my set-up?

Best answer by SURFboard Moderator

Ooma phone is not compatible with Arris's modem/router.

Ooma is a voip protocol that directly connects to the router and not the modem. So you should be fine with any modem.

Who’s your ISP and what speed plan are you paying for? that’ll be the key questions

Arris has updated models such as G34, G36, G54, G18 and G20. These are the models which is the combination of modem and router.

Cable modems: SB8200, S33 and S34.

Could you let us know the product’s model number which you are using currently?

I’d look at the Arris S34, Netgear CM3000, or Coda56

Those are all the multigig devices that are modem only.

There are modem/router combo devices. And there’s lower models such as the Netgear CM2500 that aren’t multigig. But if you follow the list for the “next gen tier” you’ll be able to either have the increased upload speeds or be covered when that area gets the upgrade.
