I purchased my SB6121 from an authorized retailer (Staples).  Recently while talking to my internet provider (Comcast), they claimed that it needed a firmware upgrade and asked me if I would allow them to do it.  They did not tell me at the time that they would be stealing control of my personally owned hardware from me.  After installing the firmware upgrade, they proceeded to tell me that there is a problem with the hardware and tried to sell me their modem.  When I log into my modem (at IP 192.168.100.1), there is no longer a “Reset All Defaults” button.  This is unacceptable and I want control of my hardware back.

Is there a way I (or you) can roll back the hacked firmware they installed and return control of my hardware to me?

Arris supports only the retail products that are available on surfboard.com but not the ISP lease products. Please contact your Internet Service Provider for further assistance.

As I stated, this is NOT an ISP lease product.  I purchased it at STAPLES.

Are you saying you will not support a product I own?

The SB6121 firmware/provisioning is controlled by the ISP. Its not user changeable. I’m surprised xfinity is even still supporting it as its a base model 8x4 modem that is docsis 3.0. Its not a recommended device and is going to be pretty slow.

Oh.  So you are refusing to support your product, talking garbage about my equipment, and you are calling me a liar.

That is pretty rude on all points.  I will certainly spread the word about your useless and arrogant company.

NO ONCE SHOULD EVER BUY ANY ARRIS PRODUCT EVER.

  1. I’m not support or arris. I’m a member of the community so “refusing to support”…...sure.
  2. talking garbage about equipment? The SB6121 was released on 2011. It “was” good when it was released. 14 years ago. Now its old, slow, and behind on the times for specs.
  3. Not sure where you think the liar  part comes in. Firmware on modems have always been controlled by the isp. Its part of the docsis spec. Arris can submit all the firmware requests/changes it wants but it goes through the ISP and they rarely actually send those out because they have to certify them for the modem and it costs $. So unless its one of their devices, they rarely do so.
  4. Rude? You posted on here. We replied. Thats how a forum works. How you took that is on your own self thoughts.
  5. Feel free to spread the word that your 14 year old device isn’t working properly and arris isn’t making it right.
