Trying to connect Wi-Fi extender with Arris modem.

I just got an Arris modem router, trying to connect it with my netgear nighthawk extender is proving to be difficult. Any suggestions please.

What arris modem/router did you get? 

What netgear extender do you have? 

What method of setup are you using for the extender? Using the app, using WPS, using the installation assistant? Where is it failing? 

Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 2.4gig/350mbps
