Cannot connect new G36 on SBC app

Forum|alt.badge.img

Attempting to set up my new G36 to my Cox cable.

I have registered the device with Cox. I am connected with a solid blue light.

I can't complete set up using the app.

If I navigate to the 192.168.0.1 site, I can see a dashboard, but haven't got a password to log in. What in the heck am I doing wrong.

I believe on that model the default password is on a tag on the bottom of the unit. Use that the first time, and then change to the password of your choice once you have logged in.

I was able to get past that issue; thank you.

Still have no internet, and Cox can't see the modem despite the fact they activated it yesterday.

To close this off, the service employee at Cox dropped one character from the MAC address - Check your work and check *their* work as well!

Glad to hear things worked out. I was thinking about this last evening and wondering what a tracert to 8.8.8.8 or equivalent would have shown.

Guardian,

Thanks for the thought & comment. I still cannot get the app to function at all.

I have updated passwords/Network naming from the desktop URL.

Questions:

Q: If I have access thru the Gateway page (192.168...) do I need the app?

Q: Is there a strategy you can point me to regarding setting up WiFi for maximum performance?

I wouldn’t worry at all about the app. As far as WiFi goes, if you are just using the G36, I’d focus on getting it as close to the center of the living space as practical. If you are going to use the ethernet connections to connect some access points, then things get more complex. It depends a lot on the space, what kind of devices you want to use, what devices need speed (say for streaming) and what just need a decent connection (for instance smart switches). I made my system more complex than needed starting out, because I didn’t have any ethernet in the house, and I didn’t realize how many devices were “slow” because of the onboard device chipset, not because of a poor signal.
