I just today bought and then installed my new surfboard S33 cable modem. I used my ISPs activation site (breezeline) to try and activate. It mostly seems to be connected, I get a steady blue light on the modem itself, but I can only connect to my ISPs website. When I use my browser to connect to the modem via 192.168.100.1 it shows as connected and operational.

However, whenever I try to access any other site, I'm met with a 'your connection is not private' (I'm on chrome). The specific error is 'net::err_cert_common_name_invalid'. If I try to download Firefox, I'm redirected to my ISPs website.

I have already talked with tech support from breezeline who said everything looks OK on their end and that it may take up to 24 hours for 'signals to synchronize', but it's been about 5 hours since I activated it and the idea of it taking 24 hours seems absurd.

One last thing, I had originally bought a hitron modem and tried to install yesterday and ran into the exact same problem, I thought maybe I had a defective unit so I ought to try arris instead. I was able to reconnect/reactivate my old modem/router combo (netgear c7000) this morning, but since trying the arris I've had nothing. I also have a tp link deco b63 I'm waiting to install once I have internet running again.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

To isolate the issue, we need to verify whether the modem is properly activated. Follow these steps:

  1. Power off the modem.
  2. Connect a computer directly to the modem using an Ethernet cable. Ensure that only one Ethernet connection is made to the modem.
  3. Power on the modem after the Ethernet connection is established.
  4. Wait until the modem displays a solid blue light.
  5. Once the solid blue light appears, check if the internet connection is accessible.
