Internet speed is slow.  Sparklight says they are unable to update the software on their end because they keep getting an error message.  how do i fix this.

DOCSIS standards dictate that the service provider must distribute firmware updates to cable modem devices.  The end-user cannot simply install an update like most other network-enabled devices.

ARRIS develops the software update and makes it available to service providers.  The service providers qualify, test, and distribute the software update to devices on their network.  ARRIS has limited control or visibility on distribution by the service providers.

Could you please confirm your subscribed internet speed plan? As @plemans mentioned, try connecting a device such as a computer directly to the modem to verify whether the modem is delivering the expected speed.

Modems aren’t user updatable. Its part of the docsis spec.

So sparklight blaming it on that is just them getting you off the phone.

First though, test your speeds directly off the modem (without a router connected) and see what you get. Make sure it is indeed modem/ISP related and not a slow router.

If there is a firmware update available and the phone techs get an error pushing it then ask to escalate.  There are many things that either they don’t know how to do or are restricted from doing.
