Tech was here today and eliminated everything but the modem I got yesterday. So I go to Best buy and swap it. Get home and this modem has exact same problem (that's 2 new failures in a row). I can't expect that kind of new-bad rate from Arris, can I?

S33 is just a cable modem it's a plug and play device. Front LED on the modem is showing blue that indicates your modem is online. You can try self-activation using the Xfinity app please use the steps mentioned on the below link for activation.
