The Xfinity installer called his tech support and they speculate that the box the modem came in was never correctly scanned by Best Buy, where I bought it.

 

They said the “mac address” is the problem, and that I have to take it back to Best Buy for them to scan it properly.

 

Anyone else have this problem?

Best buy has nothing to do with it. At all. the installer was full of it and just getting out the residence if they said that. 

Try setting it up using the xfinity app. 

If that doesn’t help, try calling in to have it provisioned.
