+1Hey all. So my new SB6190 is activated and working (Optimum is my provider). I’ve tried what has been suggested in this forum in order to log in with 192.168.100.1, yet haven’t been able to.
Question...does it matter? Is it important to get access in order to change UN and PW? Is there a security issue if not?
Not too happy with Arris that logging in is an issue. I was going to download the mobile app but I don’t download apps that require access to what’s on my phone.

If you are getting an error while trying to access the interface page, I would suggest following the instructions given on the below link:
+19It’s a very good idea to change the password. I don’t have my SB6190 any more. I’m on an SB8200. I don’t recall any issues changing the default password on the SB6190. On the SB8200 you can only change the password, not the user name.
What kind of error are you getting?

+19The fact that it is a 403 error makes this challenging. Is that happening when you try “any” device? Sometimes VPN and/or firewall rules will cause this. Can you ‘ping’ 192.168.100.1 from the command prompt on your PC, if you have one. It may not be the Arris that is the problem.
I am used to getting a “privacy error” due to invalid network credentials since there isn’t a true HTTPS connection with a valid certificate when connecting to the modem. See example below. I have to use the “advanced” option and “proceed anyway”.

+1Thanks again for the help. I just tried the command prompt, and the IP wasn’t recognized. If I had gotten as far as the connection is not private message I would have also went advanced then proceed anyway. but I don’t get anything other than that 403 forbidden message. I tried disabling the firewall also.
The solution link from the surfboard moderator is not helpful. States in the link that unless you’re familiar with changing IP addresses, best not to try. I’m no computer expert.
I suppose that I’m hoping that my wifi router password will act as my security since I can’t change the cable modem password or UN. Although I really don’t know if that is the case. What do you think?

The link is NOT for the average person. Ridiculous to have to risk trying all of that. And the note in the link “NOTE: The workaround requires knowledge of assigning IP addresses to the PC or Wi-Fi router. Refer to the user manual for instructions” What instructions? What users manual?
