Purchased April 2023 so 16/17 months old and total failure while not home….it was plugged into a surge protector and no other devices in the home were damaged so I don’t think it was from a  power surge…..no lights on the arris  and have done all the smart things that arris would say….is the power cable inserted? Yes…did you try it from another outlet? Yes

Will arris cover this under warranty or is it just that this was a bit of a lemon and most arris’s would last much longer?

l did swap out an old Motorola modem that still works so wasn’t dead in the water (after  coordinating with ISP)

I do want to have another spare on hand wondering if I should avoid arris or not

You can always check to see if its in warranty.

One thing to try is a different power adapter. I’ve seen them fail quite regularly. You probably have one sitting around from a different device to test with. Just make sure it has the exact same voltage and polarity. It can have higher amperage but not less.

As @plemans  suggested please try connecting the modem using different power adapter. If still modem stays off then please do reach out to www.arris.com/consumersupport for further assistance.

how do i handle a warranty claim - i purchased from best buy april 2023 - what are next steps?

i was told by best buy to contact Arris customer service so will contact them during the work week, i would assume they will honor the 2 year warranty, i have online receipts for the purchase in April 2023.

contacted Arris support - they also couldnt find it via the serial number then i asked them to try it multiple times and they found it, interesting the same thing occurred to me when checking it myself - had to enter it 3 times and then it was found so i assume its a bug in their system

anyway they will be sending me a new SB8200 after i send the old one to them - they have already emailed me the shipping label - just need to box it and take it to a UPS dropoff.

Glad you got a hold of someone and were able to get a exchange going!
