Four plus hours today and two yesterday trying to register my Arris SB8200V3 cable modem with Optimum. Optimum tech says it’s the modem. Arris tech says it’s the ISP. After trying two new Arris modems with Optimum I’ve had enough. Bought a Netgear and will see if that works. Pretty soured with Arris. Maybe something simple but if it doesn’t work is doesn’t work. ☹️

SB8200 is compatible with Optimum ISP and on the official site of optimum they have mentioned as follows,

Optimum Internet (no phone service) customers who want to use their own modem or Gateway, we encourage you to use a DOCSIS-certified DOCSIS 3.1 modem for all internet speeds.

A DOCSIS 3.0 24-channel or 32-channel modem may be used for speeds ≤500Mbps but you may not achieve the full performance of the service you are subscribing to.

We can debate compatibility forever but my experience after a total of over four phone hours, two separate Arris SB8200 cable modems and trying everything under the sun, Optimum techs were not able to register the Arris SB8200 on their system. None of them were able to make them work so I suggest some research into the issues. I was reluctantly urged to try a Netgear CM1000 which I purchased and it connected with no issues whatsoever.

CM1000 isn’t a bad device. I’ve used one quite a bit. And the good thing about a modem is they’re pretty set and forget. So if its working, keep using it

So true. That’s been experience with Arris until now. Had one working for over ten years without a hitch then they (ISP or Arris) must have changed something and forgot to mention it to their techs.

That might be the issue. Because Optimum is most compatible with SB8200. I request you to check with ISP regarding the same.

or if its working, keep it. If you can return the sb8200, thats what I’d do. while it has wan port aggregation, if your router doesn’t support it, it won’t have any more speed and just add time to fighting with optimum

I had no choice but to return. Optimum techs were at a loss as to problem. Maybe a wake up call to both companies to fix the issues.
