The top port does not work according to a comcast tech. The bottom port does work. We used the top port for 6-7 months when internet quit. The comcast tech tested the modem and said the top port was not responding. I called Arris tech support to see about getting a replacement modem and was told that this model only one port works. Sounds dubious. Any responses?

Its not that only 1 port works. its that comcast only supplies 1 public ip address unless you’re on a business plan or pay for extra public ip addresses (rare). So if you don’t fall into those parameters, only 1 device can be connected. 

So as simple as it sounds, only 1 port can have something connected at a time. they weren’t lying, they just weren’t giving you the reason why it works that way.
