Bought an SB8200 cable modem from Amazon to replace an old SB6141.  Package appeared to be sealed and modem was wrapped in plastic.  Activated successfully with my Xfinity account.  Functionally, it seems to be okay.  Speedtest.net reports no change in speed; ~80Mbps down and 5 up.  My Xfinity service is supposed to be 400/5 and I was hoping that a newer cable modem would bump my speed up.

However that’s not why I’m posting this.

I cannot access the Web Manager page at the default IP of 192.168.100.1.  The previous SB6141 had the same address and I had no problems viewing the page.

I’m using Firefox 91.13.0esr (64 bit) but have also tried Chrome.  Tried both http:// and https:// and nothing.  I’ve tried the usual power off-power on routine with no change.  I CAN ping 192.168.100.1 and see it.  Remove the ethernet cable from the SB8200 and ping fails so I’m pretty certain there’s no other device at 192.168.100.1 on my network (192.168.x.x).  Ethernet cable from SB8200 goes to my ASUS RT-N66U wireless router which is also where DHCP server is at.

Reading the User Manual I don’t see any way to change the SB8200’s IP address.  Nor does it explicitly say that a factory reset will change the Web Manager IP address but if ping is telling the truth, the SB8200 IS already at 192.168.100.1 and the Web Manager is simply MIA.

One other strange thing….  I found the Consumer Warranty page at Arris.com and entering my details I was surprised to see that the two year warranty expires on March 7, 2025.  That’s MORE than two years from now.  I DID NOT register this device for warranty coverage yet.  Is this some sort of default date and will it change when I really register?

TL;DR: SB8200 responds to ping at 192.168.100.1 but I can’t login to Web Manager. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hello rkawakami

When it comes to the modem interface or GUI for cable modem SB8200 we would suggest you to try on direct connection without router like connect computer or laptop to the modem ethernet port and try accessing GUI because some routers may sometime block the modem IP to access, so direct connection will definitely help, also for more details you can check the link below and the modem warranty is calculated from the date of purchase to next 24months so once you registered it will be updated accordingly.

Let us know if this helps.

Attached a laptop configured with IP address of 192.168.100.200 to second ethernet port of SB8200 and was able to login and change the admin password, thanks!

If I understand networking correctly, I changed the subnet mask of my DHCP server to 255.255.0.0 to allow for the 192.168.100.x address range but it did not help.  The previous subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 DID allow me to access my old SB6141 modem at the same 192.168.100.1 IP address so I’m still in the dark about why the SB8200 refuses to be accessed by a browser.

For now, I can dedicate a laptop to the second ethernet port and use it instead of any other system on my network to see the status of the SB8200 modem.
