I lost the username/password for my SB8200.  I’ve tried several suggested ways to factory reset it, but it does not reset the username/password back to the default.

I’ve tried:

  • power cycling it
  • pressing reset button until front lights flash - 10 seconds.
  • pressing and holding reset button for 30 seconds
  • unplugging co-axial cable, and performing the above steps
  • unplugging co-axial cable, and ethernet cable and performing the above steps
  • unplugging co-axial cable, pressing reset for 30 seconds, holding reset and unplugging power for 30 seconds, still holding reset and plugging in power for another 30 seconds
  • leaving it totally unplugged overnight for 10 hours

None of that has worked.  Are there other options?  It is under warranty until 2027.  It’s never been registered with my ISP.  Arris online chat never appears to be online, I’ve been trying for days.

Did you try the password of the last 8 of the serial number?

You said its never been registered with the ISP?

Yes, I tried ‘password’, and the last 8 of the serial.  Correct, it purchased last summer and has not been registered with my ISP.  I was able to logon to it when I first got it but I’ve forgotten what password I changed it to.

Have it activated by your isp using its mac adddress. Then once its activated, have them reset it. Or you might even be able to access it after they activate it as it should provision it for service

Interestingly, if I type the serial number into the warranty page, it lists it as a S34 and not a SB8200.  I wonder if someone put the wrong label on it.  Once I get home I’ll have to try to verify the MAC.
