Currently connected via wireless to Arris Surfboard SB8200. I want to connect directly to modem via network cable but when I do that I get the message: Status-Connected; Ethernet has a self assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet. Is there a setting I can change in the Modem to allow connectivity ?

Nope. The vast majority of ISP’s only support 1 device connected to a modem because they only assign 1 public ip address. Throws people off all the time when you get modems with multiple ethernet adapters.

They’re usually used for either wan port aggregation  (need a router that supports that) for greater than gigabit speeds or in cause you use a business line so you can separate out traffic. But that costs extra $ which is why the consumer lines rarely have that option.
