I am currently getting several dropouts the past few days. I contacted Cox customer service and they stated that Arris has a firmware update for the Sb8200. I went to the site and found nothing. Can anyone please help me with this.

Thanks in advance

Max

Hello rhythmslam

The Cable Operators (MSOs) have complete control of what cable modem/gateway hardware they will allow installed and the firmware it uses, this is because they own the coaxial cable that is connected to the ARRIS SB8200, because of that the Firmware updates are pushed by them, and any update needed as well. Any associated firmware updates are automatically deployed by the cable operator. This is not an ARRIS only implementation, but the required implementation of any cable device manufacturer.

This is the case whether the unit is owned privately or leased from them, as a security precaution for users upstream of the connected device. The most up to date version of firmware for your device that is available with your ISP is automatically pushed to the unit from them. There are no firmware/software updates available to install or download for the device. The following URL provides a detailed explanation of how firmware updates are completed for all cable modem devices:
