Hi everyone, I’m currently working with an Arris SB8200 cable modem and need some technical guidance. I'm trying to automate a WAN reset routine for my home network, but I’m hitting a wall with the device’s firmware behavior. Has anyone here worked with these modems to enable remote reboot capabilities or bypass the authentication requirements? Any advice on scripting this or alternative hardware solutions would be greatly appreciated.

We apologize, but the SB8200 is a cable modem with preconfigured settings and does not support options such as configuring WAN, automating reset routines, or enabling remote reboot capabilities. To communicate with the modem, you must connect directly via an Ethernet cable.

The last response from ARRIS is technically false, at least in regards to reboots. Automation of reboots is possible - we know this because many ISP-provided apps provide a remote reboot capability. However we also know that ARRIS will not provide help with it. There are probably a number of reasons why: Concerns about security, support, etc.

As an alternative, I can recommend the Keep Connect device made by a company called Johnson Creative. It is a power outlet with the ability to power-cycle whatever is plugged into it if your Internet connection stops working. Since installing the Keep Connect, it has power-cycled my SB8200 4 times over the last two months due to loss of connectivity. This device works without a subscription.
