How often are updates sent to Comcast to update our modem‘s at home?

Only comcast would know that. The manufacturer’s (Arris, netgear, linksys, etc) submit updates to the ISP but the ISP has to certify it and push it to the modems. That rarely happens because it costs the ISP money to certify.

    Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 2.4gig/350mbps
