I found steps to do this
but when I connect my laptop directly to the modem and launch Firefox, my computer can’t find the internet. It is setup for a WiFi connection via the router. What do I do?

Just to confirm, have you connected your computer to the SB8200 using an ethernet cable connection into the top port? Have you rebooted the SB8200 after making the connection so that it establishes a session with your PC? That should be all you need to do. If you do, and are running current Windows, your PC should indicate that you are in Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi.
Yes. I’m embarrassed to say that since the steps didn’t say reboot, all I did was plug it into the laptop and boot my laptop. Once I rebooted BOTH I was able to run the diagnostics which I posted elsewhere seeking help … and you responded to that. I could not find a way to delete this post. Sorry but thanks again.
Not to worry. I made the same mistake once upon a time. When it didn’t work, I got pretty upset with the agent I was working with at my ISP. I was embarressed later . . .
