Just purchase and installed a new sb200 V3. Xfinity package is 300 MBS. Was on the phone 2 hours and all they did was reset and reset and reset the modem. Did not produce 300 MBS. They want to send out a technician. Is it possible that there is an RF filter upstream capping my speed to 100 MBS?

Could you please confirm the category of Ethernet cable you are using? If it is a CAT5 cable, please note that it supports speeds only up to 100 Mbps

From Xfinity outside box to home Xfinity RG6. Nothing to do with Ethernet

The Ethernet cable you use plays a significant role in determining your internet speeds. Please make sure you are using an Ethernet cable rated above CAT5. To accurately verify the modem’s actual speed, we recommend connecting a computer directly to the modem via Ethernet and running a speed test

I am not using any ethernet cable. This is the cable coming from the outside of my home directly to modem. Although you may have a point, I have a ethernet cable going from the modem to the router a very short piece. Could that be the problem?

New laptop does not have RJ45 port. Desktop too far away from modem and cable entrance

To accurately isolate the issue and determine whether the modem is limiting the internet speed, the only reliable method is to connect a device directly to the modem using an Ethernet cable and run a speed test.

Speed tests conducted through a router over Wi‑Fi may not be accurate, as Wi‑Fi does not deliver consistent speeds and performance can be affected by the router, wireless interference, or other factors.

This makes it difficult to identify whether the speed limitation is caused by the router or the modem unless the test is performed via a direct Ethernet connection to the modem
