One year old modem, worked fine until two months ago, then dropped every so often. Three days ago it dropped and will not connect on reboot.  Called Cox, they declared it not working and gave me a loaner.  Tried swapping back the SB8200 and it still has the same problem.  Appears to boot correctly, but seem slower than I remember.

I’m very confused about what you are trying to ask...

> Called Cox, they declared it not working and gave me a loaner.  Tried swapping back the SB8200 and it still has the same problem.

You’re saying your SB8200 wasn’t working, so you called your provider and they loaned you a different device? Does the device they loaned you work or does it not work? And then you disconnected the device they gave you and reconnected your SB8200 and it doesn’t work? Is that what you’re saying? If your SB8200 was the problem, then of course it wouldn’t work if you reconnected it. (Unless I’m not understanding.)

What device appears to boot correctly but seems slower than you remember? The device they loaned you, or your non-working SB8200?

Ok, sorry for the confusion, I thought it was straight-forward.

  1.  I called Cox because we no longer had internet.
  2. They came and determined the SB8200 modem was the problem.
  3. Cox installed a loaner modem and internet to our network was restored.
  4. In order to double check it wasn’t some random issue I reinstalled the SB8200 and there is no internet coming through to the network.
  5. Switched back to the Cox provided modem and internet is back, so the cause is something not right with the SB8200.
  6. Although I may be remembering it wrongly, the boot sequence for the SB8200 seems slower than I recall.

I presume the SB8200 unit is defective and needs replacement.
