I have two ports in back of my SB8200. One goes to the wifi router, working fine. Sometimes I want a “wired” connection. I tried plugging wire into the other port in the back of the cable modem, it lights green, but computer says “no internet”.  I’d prefer to have the wire into the modem (more direct) than a wire into the router.  How to have both ports working with one to a router and other direct to a computer?  Thank you.

This is the situation , even though you have 2 Ethernet ports on the back of the modem , you will be able to connect one device at the time and the reason why its because the modem is getting just 1 valid IP address. If you want to use both ports at the same time you will need to contact your Internet service provider and request a secondary IP Address
