Was advised by WOW I needed a new DOCSIS 3.1 modem so I bought an Arris SB8200 used from Ebay.

Attempted to provision with WOW and tech said system was receiving a “walled garden” error?

First thing I did was push the reset button in the back of the SB8200 waiting about 20 seconds until the two blue lights and one red light briefly lit before blinking out.

When I released the reset pin after the reset the power light came on but the blue and red network LED’s did not blink?

Modem should have been reset at this point so I attempted to verify by hooking up a single Ethernet cable to the top ethernet port of the SB8200 leaving my working ethernet connection on the PC. (no other routers or devices to cause issues)

typing 192.168.100.1 in two different browsers and modem failed to connect?

Normally you could at least reach the gateway of an SB8200 and enter Admin userid with the last 8 digits of the serial number.  This way you can view the signal strength and channel information.

So this might be a good place to stop and ask the experts if this sounds familiar.

Perhaps I have given enough information to help someone that bought a used brick?

If nothing else it will act as a warning to Ebay bricked modem scams.

It might not that its bricked, but I have seen them locked to specific providers because some only provision on ipv6 while others only on ipv4.

I spoke to WOW again through chat.

They tried provisioning my SB8200 after a hard reset and only got “walled Garden” errors?

I looked at some of the other posts that claimed ISP damaged their SB8200.

First question should be does a hard reset clear everything in the firmware?

I should be able to connect with a single ethernet cable then open a browser and type 192.168.100.1 in the address bar to reach the gateway login.

Doesn’t connect after the hard reset at that address?

Simple initial triage question that product support should be able to answer.

Chat was offline when I tried to reach bones.

Hard reset only clears settings, not the firmware that has been installed or there wouldn’t be anything to run the device.

I’d return it to where you bought it and get a new one.

My SB6141 has no user option to reset when it is connected to the coax cable.

If I open a browser and type 192.168.100.1 it takes me into the gateway.

My configuration is listed there very clearly and works fine.

Model Name: SB6141
Vendor Name: ARRIS Group, Inc.
Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.7.3-SCM02-NOSH
Boot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK) 1.0.12.18m3
Hardware Version: 7.0
Serial Number: 374781333022506810020022
Firmware Build Time: Apr 22 2019 15:16:24

If I disconnect the coax cable the 6141 firmware can be reset to the factory setting.

For the new SB8200 docsis 3.1 modem the same thing is supposed to happen upon reset.

The gateway should be reachable at 192.168.100.1

Login is Admin, default password restored is the last 8 digits of the SB8200 serial number.

So the question I have for Arris concerns the SB8200 hard reset with the coax cable disconnected.

Does the modem always set back to the factory defaults unless there is a hardware error?

If the new Arris 3.1 modems can be blocked by the ISP then hackers could do the same.

You could reset the firmware to default using the JTAG tap the TDI is probably the square copper on the left from this you tube video.  I’m just trying to find the least way to reset the modem so I can log into the modem.
