I was looking at starting to use a VPN for all my devices connected to my wifi. It seems the best way to do this is if the modem supports either OpenVPN or WireGuard as a client (instead of as a server).

Does anyone know if this is true of Surfboard modems? I do have a Google router connected which is what my home devices use for Internet connection.

The SB8200 is a cable modem, so you cannot install a VPN on it. VPNs are typically configured on a router. Please check which VPN service you prefer, as most VPN providers offer a list of recommended routers. However, you can still use any router of your choice.
