I was wondering if it is possible for someone to be piggybacking off my internet? I do have it set up on a password, but my internet is starting to run slower, and also buffering a lot. Would this be N router question or not? If it is, is there a way to find out?

Accessing modem internet by un authorized user is not possible if you feel like your network has been used by someone then you need secure the home network by performing hard reset on the modem then changing the wifi credentials will help you in getting this issue fixed. Regrading slow speed issue we just need to know are you facing slow speed on wifi or even with direct connection to assist you further.
