I’ve entered my ddns settings correctly with https://freedns.afraid.org/ and hit apply.

I log into https://freedns.afraid.org/ and change the ip to see if the router will update the ip but it never happens. Is there a way to force the router to update? How long should it take for the router to update?

Unfortunately, I can’t find any info on the net about how to do this and there seems to be very little support for the arris products.

Hello @slash5bmw

Please provide the FW version of your SBG7400AC2 and I’ll check my internal resources.  Try changing the IP on freedns.afraid.org again and try rebooting the SBG7400AC2 to check the IP address is updated.

Bootcode Version = 2.2.0.45

Hardware Version = 3

Firmware Version = 9.1.103AA85

I unplugged for 1 minute and plugged it back in and it said it was updating. The IP address was updated so it seemed to work. Do you know how often the router checks the DDNS ip and verifies it or updates it? Is it every hour or once a day?

Thanks,

slash

I’ll find out how often the router sends the IP address to DDNS server.  It makes sense for the router to call the DDNS server after reboot since there’s a good chance the IP address can change.

Please run one more test where the router does not power off.  Change the IP address on freedns.afraid.org site and disconnect the coaxial cable for a couple of minutes, and then reconnect coaxial cable.  This would simulate during Internet outage and the router doesn’t lose power.  We’d like to see if the router updates the DDNS server when it renews the IP address.

I changed the IP on https://freedns.afraid.org/subdomain/ and logged into the router and went to the Utilities Tab and Restarted the router under the restart tab. I waited an hour and the IP never updated. Then I disconnected the coaxial cable for 5 minutes and then plug it back in. It took about 8 minutes and the IP was updated.

I will change the IP address tonight around 10pm and see if it updates in the morning.

Thanks for the help.

It seems to be working perfectly now. I haven’t been able to determine the exact amount of minutes before the IP gets changed on the DDNS but it’s usually under 15 minutes. It would be nice if there was an time option in the router that you could set to check the DDNS and also notify you via email when the DDNS is updated.

Hopefully someone else will find this info useful.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the updates.  I can see the benefit of adding a time option to update the DDNS service.  Please feel free to create an Idea topic with any feature you like to see in our products.
