My internet gets dropped several times per day. The Send/Receive light on the modem is flashing indicating the firmware is updating. I can’t imagine the firmware needs updates multiple times in one day. I’ve contacted Spectrum and been told the problem is in the modem.

There is no such an option to update the firmware (manually), I would recommend to check the coax cable not only the part connected to the router but the whole wiring, if possible, to check if there are damages, you can also try to reset the router back to its factory settings. If the router is still stuck my best advise is to contact support to check the warranty options they have for you
