After many years of owning the SBG7400AC2, I recently tried to use the USB port to have a shared folder easily accessible by everyone home for minor things like saving and sharing small files.

I was able to connect a thumbdrive, set up the USB such that everyone access, as detailed on this very helpful page: https://arris.my.salesforce-sites.com/consumers/articles/General_FAQs/SBG7400AC2-USB-Media-Sharing

I have no trouble seeing all the folders on the drive on my macbook and windows computers, however, I am completely unable to write anything to it on my network. Does this modem not permit writing function to the USB drives?

In this case we don't have option to edit or wright on USB drive as mentioned on the article so this is just a basic setup where you can access drive but no advance configurations available.
