My wi-fi stopped working a few days ago and I now see that my Arris modem has been RESET to factory settings out of the blue and I do not have the original password in order to reconfigure it to my settings.

The default Wi-Fi password can be found on the bottom of the gateway device. It is typically labeled as the Wi-Fi Security Key.
