I need to be able to change the default Username of my Arris SBG8300 Gateway from "admin" to something else. How do I do this?

As far as I’m aware, you can’t. 

You can only change the password

Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 2.4gig/350mbps

I would feel better if a software engineer from Arris would answer this question.  How can I contact them?

Good question. you might find a mod or two on here but you’re not going to find any software engineers on the community support forum.
