I have the SBG8300 and I’m trying to activate modem but I don’t have a Ethernet port on my laptop.

In this case if you have application for your internet service provider you can activate modem on the app by entering your modem HFC MAC address mentioned on your modem label otherwise you need to contact your service provider and provide the HFC MAC address for activation.
